Hastings Half marathon

So yet again for another year me and my old man completed the Hastings half marathon. It was a great day for it, with amazing support from the people of Hastings, they made the day even better. Unfortunately my 51 year old dad beat me to the finish with a time of 02:25:00, and my time of 02:40:00, after having not warmed up, im surprised I even finished :) but hey ho.

Till next year...

Its been a weird week!

So its been a weird week, with not a lot going on. Just been getting the bearings of how I am going to tackle my last two projects of this year on my BA degree in communication design.

I had a pretty formal meeting with the marketing team at Sussex coast college Hastings on Thursday to discuss the design of the new Andriod application for the college website. Something I have been thinking about doing for a while, and now after the marketing team having agreed my proposal, the project is now underway. Exciting times.

Looking forward to having some feedback next week to discuss what my grades were and any comments on my competition brief for Heinz Salad Cream, really hoping to win something this year, and I feel the work has the legs for it.

Watch this space...

The Weekend

So at the weekend I undertook some DIY with the lovely girlfriend and the father in law and started decorating the babies bedroom. Must admit it was fun, I even plastered a small wall which was very straight and silky smooth :) look at me go!

Sunday we went to a lovely Christening which was a nice service, nice to see the vicor was a bit techno with his Ipad. 'The wonders of technology'.

Back to Uni all this week, going to be rather busy...

Branding 10,000 lakes

Some really nice work here, really want to do some of my own.

Its been a while

So its been a while since I have posted on my blog, slap my wrist!! Probably have been the busiest yet due to the tight deadline with producing two major projects to a high standard. Which I believe I did just that. The two project was the cropped circles project and the selected Heinz salad cream competition brief. Both can be found on my other blogs if anyone is following.

Have really enjoyed the intense working pressure in order to get everything up and ready for assessment this week, a lot of running around and spending money on print, spray mount, foam board and cutting material, and not once cut myself. Hoping to get a first, on my last project I managed to get a 69% which is 1% off a first, even tho I managed to do absolutely loads and gained 3 projects out of one long 14 week long working Unit.

Studio practice is definitely what I am about, producing work of a high finish and working standard.

Friday 17th Feb (Final day)

So here is how it was left, rather nice I think, a nice balance on each page with image and text, with a number of colour highlights refereeing to the brand colours. Product images reflecting the shapes of the product sold in the introduction product pages. Rich image on left, balanced negative space with text on the right hand side. there is also a break between each product listed with a case study.

This brochure / catalogue has to have the balance of each, for example if you was to look at an audi product brochure all you will see is pictures of cars, however with this brand, because there not as established, people who are not aware of this brand will like to know about who they are, what they are about and what they are selling so with this the brochure /  catalogue is balanced with all the vital information.

Not a bad go in a week, the design now has a core structure and readability throughout, however small changes will be made here n there when they come to finish it etc.

Thanks Westgate for the opportunity...

Thursday 16th feb (4th day)

Having considered the more image based route, I now brought the theme into an A4 size which is more readable and brochure like. this was now the route and is starting to get to how it wants to look.

However looking at this style, the rich images are quite striking, and a little over powering, so it need a lot more white space to balance the pages.

Wednesday 15th Feb (3rd day)

So having gone down the more image based route, and have done a few more layout designs, in these I tried looking at some different size documents, they didnt know what size they wanted the brochure to be, so I thought I would experiment with some different sizes.

I like this layout, however not sure on the size of the document, not brochure enough for me. however I do like the use of the branding with the play of the logo.

Teusday 14th Feb (day 2)

So in my second day having done a few drawings and a lot of thinking of how it should look, the best thing I thought was to consider, was the feel and look of the website, looking at colours, use of text and the readability of the information.

So in my first design (Above) I felt it was best to start with looking at the layout of how the images would look and the use of colour. The colour referencing to each product so you would know where you was in the catalogue.

The layout is fairly simple at this stage and gives me something to work off...

This was a great starting point to work off said the art director, we now have something to work off, and I have grabbed the layout of the website and used it to my advantage. However the big thing to realise is that this is a product ctalogue, so it needs to be very image based.

So back to the drawing board I went...

Monday 13th Feb

So I started  my new placement for a week at brand design agency Westgate communication, a brand design agency who take great care and precision when it comes to brand communication and design for print.

They are experts in public relations and corporate brand design with clients such as EcoSecurities, Rio+15, Hyder Consulting, Loughborough and many more.

It was a pleasure to meet the design team, (Gemma, Johnathan, Martin & Shaun), who were very welcoming and a pleasure to talk to.

My week consisted of one thing, and that was to begin to brainstorm, and design the structure of a product catalogue for a company called Unigro:

Unigro is a leading provider of controlled environmental chambers and glasshouses, such as contained greenhouses, plant growth chambers, clean rooms, walk in environmental chambers and other research facilities. The GroDome and GroRoom range of controlled environmental chambers are in use in major universities and research institutes throughout the UK, and have been designed and constructed to provide the highest level of research capability.

The catalogue had to show there products and a little about them and what they do. Unigro are a small company on the rise, so the catalogue had to fit within there branding and show off there products in a sharp, glossy and high standard of design.

The day consisted of a lot of thinking, brain storming, drawing and above all Tea...

New Casa Campbell Website designed

Recently designed a website for Holiday Villa Casa Campbell.

Great project, nice to be able to design in consideration of the internet. Great work from web developer Dwayne Sutton, worked his magic developing the site.

Nice to see it all come together and working.
